The story in Waldorf philosophy has a distinctive and warm nature, and the storytelling section is one of the main programs in the Waldorf kindergarten.
Philosophy avoids reading to children in the first years of their life and depends on storytelling. It is called “heart-to-heart storytelling,” where the teacher or mother memorizes the story well and then narrates it to the children.
Some dolls, puppets, gnomes, and fabrics can be used on a table or into a teepee tent for narration or drawing during the story, it should be repeated more than once, for example, over the course of a week, until the child memorizes and comprehend it completely, so, they depend on this method to encourage language development in children.
Narration in this creative way reaches their heart directly, strengthens the relationship between the educator and the child, and spreads warmth and intimacy.
The Waldorf curriculum relies primarily on stories at all levels of education…
It relies in the early years on fairy tales that are compatible with the stage of children’s imagination to develop their creativity. It also tends to instill goodness and peace, avoids stories that contain an evil, traitor, or loser, so stories are the source of reassurance for children.
When we reach the years of education from 7 to 14 years, we can narrate the inspiring biographies or stories of particular people, and we can teach them the story of creation and the stories of Sahaba (Companions); Because the child at this stage learns with love and by a role model.
The story or novel remains with the child, regardless of his age, as an essential part of the educational process at home and kindergarten.
